Automatic Gain Control (AGC)

« Back to Glossary Index

AGC provides an improved output for people with hearing loss.

AGC is why telecoil users rave about being able to hear every word, even those whispered, in all hearing loops and some FM/RF and infrared systems.

AGC gives consistency that makes for easy listening. In contrast, if the level fluctuates wildly, it can be jarring and uncomfortable to people listening.

A means (other than peak clipping) by which the gain is automatically controlled as a function of the level of the signal being amplified with the objective of providing a stable output signal level.
